1992 Hooters 500-the most classic NASCAR finale in my heart 1 Reply

Another November is coming, and NASCAR is approaching the season finale once more. The new Chase format seems to guarantee a magnificent one at Homestead. So, I can't help looking back on the classic championship occasions in history. To me, the…Continue

Another November is coming, and NASCAR is approaching the season finale once more. The new Chase format seems to guarantee a magnificent one at Homestead. So, I can't help looking back on the classic championship occasions in history. To me, the peak, of course, belongs to the 1992 Hooters 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway... The culmination of the King...The debut of the Wonder Boy...The closest championship points margin in NASCAR at the time...And of course, the finest showing by the Underdog,…See More

My thoughts on Jules Bianchi's accident

Anyone here who frequently watches Formula 1? It's very sad for me to see the accident that befell Jules Bianchi in last week's Japanese Grand Prix, especially that he's a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Wish him all well! ForzaJules! I'm thinking whether a cover on the cockpit would have prevented Bianchi's injury. In this way, we'll have an LMP1-style Formula 1 car. My questions are that (1) At present do we have the technology to make covers that can endure such a hard impact without…See More

Moonshine, NASCAR, Atlanta, and Georgia Tech

Just after the 4th of July (2009), I was up in Ashville, NC for a bluegrass festival. I wandered into a bookstore, and picked up a paperback called "Driving with the Devil" by Neal Thompson. It was supposed to be about the origins of NASCAR and how all the earliest drivers and cars were involved in moonshining. Seemed interesting...

But then, the book started talking about Atlanta, and Northside Drive, and Hemphill Street, the Varsity, and all the places that surround Georgia… Continue

I'm gonna try for it.  But…
